Stress Awareness Week puts the workplace in the picture

This week’s ISMA UK campaign asks how work can become more human, a useful question alongside any invitation to pause and practice.

International Stress Awareness Week runs November 2 to 6, with ISMA UK’s global online summit on Wednesday, November 4. The organizer’s 2026 theme is “Shaping the Future of Stress and Wellbeing: Rehumanising the Workplace.”

Looking beyond the individual pause

The campaign brings employers, educators, practitioners and communities into the same discussion about working life. Its scope matters to yoga teachers who lead sessions for people arriving from a pressured day: a class takes place within a wider set of circumstances.

A breathing break or a quiet hour can be an invitation to pay attention. It is not evidence that a workplace has addressed the conditions contributing to stress. Our editorial question for the week is what an organization changes around the practice, including the time and space people actually have to participate.

ISMA’s page describes an awareness campaign, rather than a trial establishing the effects of yoga. For teachers planning a workplace session, keeping that distinction clear allows a modest, practical invitation: make room for a pause, while leaving room to talk about how the day itself is organized.
