Pelvic floor yoga: what the comparison shows

A new subgroup analysis finds no clear advantage over general conditioning for leakage frequency, with modest differences elsewhere.

A chair, a mat and time to practise.

A 21 October paper in the International Urogynecology Journal examines 140 women with overactive bladder and urinary leakage from the larger LILA trial. Participants were assigned to twelve weeks of pelvic floor yoga or a time-matched general conditioning programme.

Keep the main outcome in view

Leakage frequency fell in both groups, without a statistically significant difference between them. Yoga showed modestly greater changes in urinary distress and daytime frequency. The authors describe these subgroup findings as exploratory; the clinical importance of the distress difference is uncertain. The result supports careful discussion of the evidence, rather than promises that a particular class will resolve symptoms.
