A three-part account by Andrei Rybkin, updated on October 24 by Vancouver’s B.K.S. Iyengar Yoga Association, looks back on a September week with Raya Uma Datta. The visit included open practices, a public talk and a four-day conference with the senior teacher from Pune.

What continues after the gathering

Rybkin’s closing reflection gives attention to asking for help, practising alongside others and the volunteers who made the gathering possible. The association describes it as its largest community gathering, a claim made in its own retrospective. The account also makes room for uncertainty and continued study. Its lasting subject is the local community returning to practice after a visiting teacher has gone home.
