A small quality-of-life signal, with uncertainty
A review of mindfulness and acceptance-based approaches in schizophrenia calls for modest claims and better trials.

A review published in Mindfulness on October 21 examines quality of life among adults with schizophrenia spectrum disorders. Nine randomised trials, involving 567 participants, contributed to its main analysis. The pooled result suggested a small improvement from mindfulness- and acceptance-based interventions.
A promising average has limits
The authors rated the evidence as low certainty. Although the pooled confidence interval excluded zero, the prediction interval crossed it, leaving uncertainty about what a new setting might find. Clinical importance and durability also remain unclear. The review concerns structured interventions in a clinical population, not ordinary yoga classes as treatment. Its authors call for stronger trials to establish a possible supporting role in care. For a public yoga journal, the useful lesson is to preserve those qualifications when discussing an encouraging result.
