A sinusitis review maps evidence and its gaps

A twelve-study scoping review gathers varied yoga approaches while finding small samples, inconsistent reporting and limited objective assessment.

Traditional practice meets questions about evidence.

A scoping review published November 1 in EXPLORE maps twelve studies of yoga-based approaches to sinusitis and related conditions. The authors’ institutional record at Manipal Academy of Higher Education provides the abstract and publication details.

A map is different from a settled treatment

The included work ranges from randomized trials to case reports, case series and studies without a comparison group. It covers cleansing practices including Jala Neti, breathing, postures, relaxation and combined programs. Different designs and combinations answer different questions.

The review describes reported improvements in symptoms and other measures, but identifies small samples, inconsistent reporting, methodological variation and limited objective assessment. This is a narrative map of the literature, rather than a single pooled estimate demonstrating how well one practice works.

The authors call for adequately sized randomized trials, standardized programs and systematic safety assessment. For teachers, the useful reading includes those gaps alongside the reported findings. The review does not establish a universal protocol, demonstrate the safety of every cleansing technique or provide instructions for trying one at home.
