A retired teacher keeps yoga and writing open to others

At 74, S Sampath Kumar continues teaching free yoga and writing about practice in Karimnagar.

Books, a mat and a continuing habit of study.

The New Indian Express profiles S Sampath Kumar, a 74-year-old retired physical education teacher in Karimnagar, Telangana. Since retiring in 2010, he has continued teaching yoga without charge and writing about yoga, meditation, health and martial arts. The newspaper reports that he has produced 55 books.

A teaching life beyond retirement

Kumar hopes to reach 100 books and develop further outreach to people working in technology. Those are ambitions, rather than completed projects. The enduring part of the story is simpler: a teacher keeping practice and study available to others after his formal working life has ended. His example places free teaching and sustained curiosity alongside the more familiar story of building a yoga business.
